Ask students to use the website www.cia.gov to gather economic information about 40 countries on 6 continents.

Ask students to experiment with clicking on column headings in order to sort the data in different ways (high to low, low to high, etc.)

Students use their self generated thesis questions to guide their essay research.

 

Examples of student questions:

Ruby:          What causes African countries to be so poor?

Adrian:       Why is the poverty level so low in EU?

Taylor:        Why does Africa have the highest unemployment rates?

Brooklynn: How does Japan have such high Industry levels?

Lillie:          Why do many Asian countries have low unemployment rates?

About Me

Guy Hamlin has been a teacher of life lessons in midcoast Maine (and abroad) for 30 years.  He has participated in Fellowships with the Transatlantic Outreach Program (TOP) and  Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms (TGC.) His passion in education is to bring the world to students in rural Maine.

In 2019, Guy received a M. Ed in Global Education from the University of Illinois. He's available to collaborate or consult with teachers/districts who are interested in globalizing their approaches to education.
